Papercut Ochre is a Bagru block print from Merchant & Mills: a cut-paper motif in deep ochre on a warm stone ground, stamped by hand onto lightweight Indian cotton. Bagru, a village 35 km from Jaipur, has printed cloth this way for over four centuries — the Chhipa community still carves the wooden blocks and dyes with traditional, largely natural colours.
At 81 gsm the cotton is airy and soft: right for summer shirts, loose dresses, children's clothes, scarves and lightweight quilting. Because every repeat is placed by hand, small irregularities in the print are expected and are part of the cloth, not flaws. Sold by the yard and cut continuous — order 3 and you receive a single 3-yard length.
