A pair of thick silicone pot holders from Yamazaki's Tower line, each with a magnet in the back so they stick to the range hood, a steel backsplash or the fridge door and are always within reach of the stove. The silicone insulates well and gives a firm, no-slip grip on a hot lid or a cast-iron handle. Rinse or run them through the dishwasher.
